The Mission
The mission of Columbia Baptist Church is the same mission Jesus gave his followers: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.
The Vision
Columbia Baptist Church seeks to be “A Place For Faith and Family” by emphasizing how we connect with God through faith in Christ, and how we connect to one another as a church family. We desire to develop relationships throughout every aspect of what we do as a church, so that our relationships with God and with one another grow stronger.
Our Beliefs
Scripture
The Holy Bible was written by men, divinely inspired, and is God's revelation of Himself to man. The Holy Scriptures in their original form are inerrant and infallible and our authority on all things pertaining to faith and practice.
God
The creator of all things, who is eternal in His existence, perfect in His actions, and altogether Holy. God is One in being and essence, yet reveals himself to us as three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Spirit. All persons equal in dignity, distinct in their economy, yet, all fully God.
Man
Man is the special creation of God, made in His own image. He created them male and female as the crowning work of His creation. The gift of gender is thus part of the goodness of God's creation. Through the temptation of Satan man transgressed the command of God, and fell from his original innocence. Through the original act of man, all men inherit a sinful nature and thus by their own free choice become transgressors of God’s perfect law and thus become guilty and deserving of God’s holy judgement.
Salvation
Salvation is the work of God whereby He graciously redeems man solely based upon his faith in the finished work of the cross. This work of Salvation is both beautifully complex and radically simple. God begins the work of Salvation through the convicting work of the Holy Spirit, the work of regeneration, the work of justification, the work of sanctification–and ultimately concludes the process of Salvation through the work of glorification in Heaven.
Church
The church is the collective group of redeemed individuals gathering together corporately to celebrate the resurrection of Christ and fulfill the Great Commission. The universal Church is organized into local congregations who strive to work together to be the instruments of grace to a lost world. The local church is God’s intended means for the fulfillment of the Great Commission.

The Story of Columbia Baptist
The Baptist Church of Columbia, Kentucky was organized on July 6, 1827 by nine charter members, with additional help by its mother church Zion Baptist Church (18 people total). At the time of its establishment, they would meet at the Adair County Courthouse.
Then, in 1844, the church would purchase Lot #32 in Columbia, KY for $200. It was a half acre lot on Main Street (now Greensburg Street) and was within walking distance of the Courthouse they started at so long ago.
During the Civil War (1861 - 1865), the church's building was utilized as a federal hospital.

In 1914, the wood church building was raised and a new brick building was put in its place.
14 years later, in 1928, the church burned down.
As a church not afraid of adversity, they continued meeting in a location known as Tutt's Hall. They would meet there until 1932, when the first service was held in the current sanctuary.
In addition, a 3 story education building was added in 1957.

This building is where we are today and the buildings have played a part in the development of Columbia Baptist Church. But, they are not the Church, just as Paul calls it in Romans 16:5 - they are just a house.
The church is the Body of Christ, the assembly, the called out ones, a family of believers. The best thing about our Family is the knowledge that we are not done yet! We continue to grow and serve God. We would love for you to come be apart of our awesome family and the things that are happening here at Columbia Baptist!
